Parkland Update

We understand how important the parkland is to visitors and taking this into consideration further work has taken place to find an alternative solution which will allow some of the parkland to be reopened on Saturday, 18 January. This will provide a safe access route through the parkland to Cannon Hall farm via the main path from the Cannon Hall, Museum Park and Gardens car park towards the Hall.

Cannon Hall, Park and Gardens closes for five weeks as transformational changes take place

Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens, the well-loved visitor attraction, will be closed for five weeks from immediate effect as spectacular changes take place in the parkland as part of the £3 million Parks for People Project. The project, which has been made possible through the generosity of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and its players, will see the historic parklands returned to their former Georgian splendour.

LANDMARK PROJECT SEES NEW HOME IN BARNSLEY FOR RARE DE MORGAN VASE

Cannon Hall museum, park and gardens will soon be home to a rare William De Morgan vase, which will add to the already outstanding collection found in the upper rooms of the stunning Georgian Country House. A pioneering project funded by the Museums Association will see new homes being found for up to 2,300 pieces of art and other objects from the De Morgan collection all of historical and archaeological interest.

Enjoy a ‘Pear’fect day at Cannon Hall

Visitors will enjoy a ‘pear’fect day at Cannon Hall on Sunday, 22 September as they celebrate the Hall’s annual Pear Day. The stunning Georgian country house hosts the spectacular free event each year to commemorate the harvest of the historic pears, which are an important part of Cannon Hall’s past. People can come along between 11am and 4pm and taste the pears, which will be available to buy alongside a selection of other tasty produce from the gardens.

The internationally famous Caravan Gallery shines a spotlight on Wombwell

Barnsley Museums have invited artists and photographers Jan Williams and Chris Teasdale to bring their unique mobile gallery to the streets of Wombwell. Their bright yellow caravan - a lovingly reincarnated1969 Bluebird Europe - will make its Wombwell debut on the High Street next to Gabby’s Florists on Saturday 14 September during the Heritage Open Day weekend. Further market day appearances will follow over the course of a month.

CANNON HALL’S EXHIBITION PLANS ARE ‘BLOOMING’

Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens have announced that a very special exhibition will be arriving to the Hall in late summer next year. They look forward to hosting the prestigious International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY) touring exhibition number thirteen, which for the very first time will see artwork displayed both inside and outside the Hall. Work included is exquisite, hand-picked pieces from a selection of award-winning entries.
