Cannon Hall remembers those who have given their lives in war

To honour all those who have fallen in the two world wars and also those who have given their lives in recent conflicts Cannon Hall will be planting poppy sculptures made by local people. Visitors are invited to come to the walled gardens at Cannon Hall, a operated by Barnsley Council, from Remembrance Sunday, 8 November until Thursday 12 November. Here they will be able to take a moment to think about the many people who lost their lives in battle.

CELEBRATE THE BEST OF BRITISH AT CANNON HALL

A new exhibition has arrived at Cannon Hall celebrating the work of some of the biggest names in British art. Hanging on the walls in the spectacular surroundings of the Georgian country house will be masterpieces by Edward Wadsworth, Vanessa Bell, J M W Turner, Henry Moore, John Ruskin and many more.

CELEBRATE PEAR DAY AT CANNON HALL

Visitors are invited to Cannon Hall to celebrate Pear Day. The Hall hosts the spectacular event each year to commemorate the harvest of the historic pears. It takes place in the stunning surroundings of the Walled Kitchen Garden, where the fruit is grown.

A TASTE OF DOWNTON WITH ANNIE GRAY

As part of the current exhibition, Downton Comes to Cannon Hall, the museum will be hosting an evening with Dr Annie Gray. The event, which takes place on Thursday 13 August, will see Annie discuss British food from the 1920s to the 1930s and will also include tasting sessions.

SEE CANNON HALL AS NEVER BEFORE

People can find out more about the history of Cannon Hall in a guided tour of the country house on Wednesday, 19 August. During the evening, which begins at 6.30pm, they will discover more about the secret romances, murderous rivalry and pre- Raphaelite connections that occurred in the stunning hall, park and gardens.
