Funding for new training space at Cannon Hall Museum

Cannon Hall Museum have received funding of £259,000 to create a unique training and creative space in a previously unused building.

The funding, which has been secured through a grant from The Wolfson Foundation with match funding from Barnsley Council, will build on the Parks for People investment and convert a building, in the outside area of the Hall, into an exciting training room that can be used by apprentices and young people across the borough to enhance their skill set.

Situated in the stunning setting of the newly refurbished walled garden the building will also be used to host wellbeing sessions based around arts, crafts and ceramics.

The project is due to be complete later this year.

Cllr Tim Cheetham, cabinet spokesperson for place at Barnsley Council, said: “The new training and a creative space at Cannon Hall Museum will have a huge impact on young people across the borough.  It will offer a relaxing, dynamic and interesting environment to learn new skills and build strong foundations for their future career.  It will also offer an opportunity to learn more about the Hall, its collections and links to Barnsley.  The space will host creative sessions aimed around reflection and mindfulness and the location is perfectly suited to offering moments of calm.”
