The winner of the Beautiful Barnsley Photography Competition is revealed

The winners of the ‘Beautiful Barnsley’ photography competition hosted by Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens in partnership with the International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY) organisation have been revealed.

The 1st Place winner is Kyle Parr with his photograph, 'Evening Fields'. A stunning image taken in the early evening, overlooking farmland in the village of Dodworth near the Trans Pennine Trail.

The competition winners of which they are seventeen in total will form a stunning exhibition that is due to be on display in the Hall from Friday 25 September to Sunday 28 February 2021, however opening may be subject to change.

Hundreds of entries were submitted to the competition, showcasing the beauty and stunning landscapes of the borough and were judged by IGPOTY and guest judges Kyte Photography.

As part of their work with the prestigious International Garden Photographer of the Year, Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens are proud to be hosting the 13th Annual IGPOTY competition. The free exhibition is an exciting arrival for the well-loved visitor attraction, as for the very first-time work will be displayed from Friday 28 August until Thursday 22 October in their stunning outside spaces on all weather outdoor structures.  From delicate garden scenes to detailed close-ups of horticulture - the images are truly a sight to behold and a will be even more special with the historic parklands as the backdrop.

Speaking about the winning entry, Kyte Photography said:

This image simply jumped off the page for us. The powerful black and white tones contrast superbly in all aspects of the photograph’s composition. A dramatic ‘Turneresque' sky alongside the rugged path and hedgerow gives the image an almost textural feel. The path's perspective makes the viewer feel that they are being invited to take the journey with the photographer to experience an awe-inspiring, rural Barnsley hillside walk.

Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place (Regeneration and Culture) said:

We are extremely lucky to live in such a beautiful borough. There are stunning gardens, landscapes and outside spaces around every corner, all of which have been critical during these unusual times that we find ourselves in. To have a competition that celebrates the scenery around us is brilliant and to see all the work displayed together in another breath-taking exhibition at Cannon Hall is a real treat.  We would like to thank everyone who entered and contributed to really showcasing how breath-taking Barnsley is.
