Vital funding secured for Cannon Hall roof

Cannon Hall, South Yorkshire's stunning Grade II* Georgian Country House and museum, has received funding of almost £900k to make essential repairs to its historic roof.

The iconic building, which is home to an outstanding museum collection of fine and decorative art, has been awarded the money by the Museum Estate and Development Fund. It will be used to repair and safeguard preserving the building for future generations.

Adaptations and improvements will be made to the roof using the best conservation expertise and will address environment issues by improving insulation.

Cllr Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “Cannon Hall is an important part of Barnsley’s cultural offer welcoming thousands of visitors each year. Free to enter it regularly hosts high-quality exhibitions, events, and family activities. It is vitally important that we preserve this historic building and we are incredibly grateful to the Museum Estate and Development Fund for their support in allowing us to make these improvements to the roof.”

Barnsley Libraries has also secured £50,000 from Art Council’s Libraries Investment Fund to help improve digital infrastructure across libraries, meaning visitors can enjoy modern, digital solutions no matter where they live.
